When Sarah, 28, from Toronto, and Tom, 31, from Hamilton, both signed up for HeartSyncNow in early 2025, neither expected it to change their lives. Fourteen months later, Tom got down on one knee at Niagara Falls. We caught up with them to hear it all.
"I almost swiped past his profile," Sarah laughs. "But his bio mentioned he was learning to make sourdough, had strong opinions about which Tim Hortons locations are worth visiting, and was oddly specific. I loved it." Tom had liked Sarah's profile because of a photo she'd posted from a trail run in Algonquin Park. "She looked genuinely happy," he says. "Not posed, just happy."
They talked for three days on the app before Tom asked for Sarah's number. "The chat was just easy," Sarah says. "He was funny without trying too hard. We figured out we'd both been at the same Arkells concert in 2023 and somehow missed each other."
Tom suggested a walk through Kensington Market followed by lunch at a Portuguese spot he loved. "I was nervous," he admits. "But she was even funnier in person than in text. I knew within the first hour I wanted to see her again." Sarah felt the same. "I texted my friend from the bathroom that I thought he was the one. She didn't believe me at the time, but she does now."
Tom proposed at Niagara Falls on a cold February morning, where their first road trip together had taken them on their third date. "I wanted to go back to where we realized this was real," he says. "She cried, I cried, and the tourist next to us cried too, which was a little awkward but also sweet."
"Don't overthink your bio," Sarah says. "Just be yourself — the specific, weird, genuine version of yourself. That's what actually attracts the right person." Tom adds: "Be patient. The right match is worth more than a hundred mediocre ones. And show up as who you actually are — it's so much easier in the long run."
